Sextet 1 is a percussion ensemble piece that uses the vibraphone in a soloistic way. There is also a drum set part that uses light grooves and some busy licks. The piece explores many timbre combinations: whirly tubes with a meditation bowl, crotales with glock., to name a couple. Lastly, there are a myriad of time signature changes. The "meditative" 5/8's are a challenge to play and the 7/8's going into some of the 6/8's change feel. This piece will challenge your performers environmental awareness as well as technical prowess.
